If you’ve already been convicted of a crime against a child or a sex crime in general, you may be required to be on a sex offender’s list and to report when you move. If this is a requirement of your sentence, then failing to do so can land you in hot water. That’s what happened to this man from Longview.

The former Longview resident, a 43-year-old, was arrested in accordance to a warrant against him for the sexual abuse of a child under 14 that was put out by Panola County. According to the police, the man was arrested in Shelby County and was sent back to Panola County following his arraignment.

The police had suspected an unregistered sex offender was in the area starting at the beginning of February. At that point, the investigator and a sergeant reported interviewing a child on Feb. 11 who stated that the man had made improper conduct with him or her.

Once the child made that claim, the warrant was issued and the man was charged with two counts of the failure to register as a sex offender. He faces two counts due to moving two times without registering; first, he had moved to Carthage, and then he moved to Panola County.

The full report about this case states that the man had previously been convicted of sexual abuse while living in Alabama, and he’s also been convicted of sexual assault in Gregg County. Now, he’s facing the charges of failing to register along with one accusation of the continued sexual abuse of a child under 14.
