From Football Star To Texas Criminal Attorney
Born and raised in Paris, Texas, criminal attorney Jackson came from a modest background and took an unexpected route into law. He began as a high school sports star and football celebrity at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and he later played professional football for the Dallas Texans (who later became the Kansas City Chiefs).
While attending medical school in Kansas City, Mr. Jackson was acquired by the Miami Dolphins in an expansion draft. On leave from medical school to play football in Miami, his life took a surprising turn. In Miami, he met Percy Foreman, the defense attorney on the famous Candy Mossler trial, a case that received national attention. Mr. Jackson’s conversations with Mr. Foreman convinced him to drop out of medical school and enter law school at the University of Miami after retiring from football. He resolved to become a criminal defense attorney.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Jackson returned to Dallas in 1971, where, for two years, he prosecuted criminal cases as an assistant district attorney. There, he gained firsthand knowledge about the strategies of a prosecutor, insight that he now uses to provide skilled representation for his criminal defense clients.
Always interested in defense work, attorney Jackson established his own criminal defense practice in Dallas in 1973.
He sees many parallels between his football days and trial law. “Both require tenaciousness, dogged determination and an ability to rebound,” he says. These are the skills that he applies in the courtroom today to successfully defend his criminal defense clients.
