As a person facing drug charges, you should be aware of your rights. You don’t have to plead guilty to the charges against you, but you need to be made aware of what could happen to you now and in the future if you choose to do so. When you’re involved in a major case like this one, a strong defense is advisable.

In this case that was taken to the courts in El Paso, Texas, a man was recently sentenced for his part in a Mexican drug cartel’s operations. According to the story, the man was a bodyguard to a Mexican drug cartel boss and became involved in the murder of a man who had broken off from the cartel and started trafficking drugs in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2006.

This story is interesting since it spans both Mexico and the United States, with authorities on both sides taking part in stopping the cartel. The man in this court case was the security guard to the man believed to be the Sinaola drug cartel’s boss in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Ciudad Juarez is across the border from El Paso, Texas. In 2013, the alleged boss of the cartel was killed by Mexican authorities under circumstances that weren’t described.

When the man in this case went to court, he pleaded guilty to a murder charge and a charge for drug trafficking. His attorney argued for a maximum sentence that would have capped at 10 years for the drug charges and murder, but the federal judge didn’t agree. The judge determined that the bodyguard should be sentenced to 28 years in prison; it wasn’t reported whether he would have access to parole.
