In many cases, somebody who commits a sex crime is arrested immediately following the act. In other instances, the person is able to elude authorities for the time being, eventually slipping under the radar.
Even in the event that people escape the grasp of police for a period of time, there is always the chance that the crime will come back to haunt them later in life. This rings true in the state of Texas, with a man who was arrested on drug charges being connected to a sexual assault case from 1994.
According to the Denver District Attorney’s Office, the 56-year-old man was charged in Denver for a crime of violence and felony aggravated sexual assault. This stems from an incident in September of 1994 in which he is suspected of raping a 67-year-old woman.
Despite the fact that the woman passed on 14 years ago, police were able to connect the man to the crime thanks to DNA evidence that had been previously collected.
The man was initially arrested earlier this year for a drug charge in Texas, and now faces extradition for the crime he allegedly committed many years ago.
This story shows that a sexual assault case is not always over and done with until the person who is charged has his or her day in court. This case shows that even when somebody gets away with a crime, they may have to face the consequences down the road. For this man, a date with the legal system awaits, as does the chance to explain his side of the story.
