When you’re suspected of drunk driving, you may temporarily face scrutiny from friends, family members or coworkers. Fortunately, there are ways for you to protect yourself and them from the media and wrongful accusations. Until you’re proven guilty, you should not be treated as if you are.

Consider the man in this case who police are claiming was drunk when he collided with a officer’s cruiser. The Arlington Police have said that the officer was on DWI patrol and was reporting to a major accident call when he was hit by the driver. The officer reportedly was driving down a street when the driver pulled out in front of him.

According to the news, the officer and the driver both had to be treated at a local hospital, but they were able to be released. After the release, though, the man who struck the officer was allegedly arrested for driving while intoxicated. The 53-year-old man may have been tested in the hospital, but the report does not say what his blood alcohol content was at the time of the accident.

What is unusual is the fact that the officer would be hit by someone coming down a side street if his sirens were on. That is one question that isn’t answered in the news, so it’s hard to say if the accident was caused by a distracted driver, drunken driver or a driver who simply didn’t see or hear a speeding cruiser.

These kinds of cases aren’t always straightforward, and it’s okay to ask for help. With some research and a review of what really happened, you may be able to have a positive outcome in the case.
