A 20-year-old man from Texas is facing charges for child pornography and sexual assault. The alleged explicit text messaging was with a 12-year-old out of Bergen County, New Jersey.

The investigation was conducted by local police in Texas and members of the Bergen County Computer Crimes Unit. According to authorities, the man allegedly sent videos and pictures of himself to the 12-year-old. The 12-year-old was then supposed to send back similar images.

It’s not known how the man was able to allegedly target the child and make contact, and it’s also not known if the child was a boy or a girl. The man is facing one count of endangering the welfare of a child, manufacturing child pornography and aggravated sexual assault. An extradition hearing is pending for his return to New Jersey. He’s currently being held in Texas and has a bail of $150,000.

According to authorities, the man allegedly used social media applications Kik and ooVoo to talk to the 12-year-old and the screen names of “randomrobbie2013” and “rsquared2013.”

If you are facing sex crime charges, especially those that involve children, you may find that it will affect your job, family and friends. In addition to building a strong defense on your behalf, your defense attorney will need to work to limit the damage to your reputation. While crimes such as these should never occur, everyone is entitled to a fair trial. In addition, the prosecution must prove someone’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Should a guilty verdict be the outcome, the defendant has a right to file an appeal.
